Each year before Pesach and Rosh Hashanah we deliver cartons of food staples to those in our community who lack the basics to have a Simchas Yom Tov. The cartons include Matzah, chicken, eggs, produce and many other essential items. The dignity of recipients is ensured every step of the way. There is no need to come forward for assistance and no embarrassing lines. A committee vets each family and is in contact with their Rav. Deliveries to recipients’ homes are made to look no different from regular supermarket drop-offs.
This Chessed was started in Nissan 5775 at the urging of several prominent local Rabbanim and has continued since. We rarely asked the community for help because most of our costs were covered by government.
Unfortunately, prices for basic staples have skyrocketed and government funding no longer covers the majority of our food costs. We are forced to turn to you for help. We must raise $150,000 within one week in order not to cancel Yom Tov support for close to 300 families who rely on this help.
Please open your hearts and wallets and encourage your friends to do the same.
We are sure that you get many requests for help. Today we are asking you to help your friends and neighbors.
